I have had my shadow for about three months and have never dropped it. I plugged it in to charge it, and the screen cracked. I am pissed. I have called tmobile and they said my warranty is void now and it is considered physical abuse, not surprised. I was transfered to everyone at tmobile then to HTC who told me that they couldnt do anything, tmobile has to. One lady actually told me "if you buy a tv from a store and drop it and the screen is cracked you cant return it" I told her well, when you buy a tv, bring it home, plug it in and the tv screen cracks, you can return it...and she didnt say anything. I have filed a complaint with the FCC but we'll see what they do. Tmobile told me that this isn't a common problem and they have never heard of it happening before. This obviously is a problem and has happened before otherwise this forum wouldn't be 4 pages long. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I've had my shadow for about 4 months now and like many of you, it was in my pocket and when I took it out to make a call, bam, the screen was cracked. First time this has ever happened to me, and I've owned a lot of phones in the past. I'm so pissed off. This phone should have been engineered to take a little physical damage here and there. I bet if you sneeze hard enough it may break your screen.
I'll be calling T-Mobile tomorrow and if nothing can be done, they will surely be receiving a complaint with the FCC from me!

"Replacement screen:

http://cnn.cn/shop/tmobile-shadow-screen-p-2223.html

As a side note, some of the t-mobile employees in this thread have been real jerks. Worse than the supposed screen issue is an evident customer service problem."
Thanks for the link.

Is there a how to forum for replacing the screen???

Hmmph. I work for a company that has to deal with LCD driver damage all the time. First off. Reading 100 complaints is nothing... These manufacturing companies are selling thousands upon thousands of phones a day. Just because you go to a discussion thread where other people go to complain about a problem does not make it a crisis or a common issue. People are coming here to rejoice or complain. So posting a complaint and having others also complain does not make it a common issue. Doesn't mean that it isn't but it also doesn't mean that it is. Yeah what you guys are talking about happens from crushing. Putting a cellphone in your pocket is kind of silly. We know these products have a certain ammount of fragility and though we wnat them to be super strong; to make them super strong would be way too cost prohibitive. Ruggedizing a system is expensive. So you get what you paid for. Or didn't pay for, which ever is the case. Then again these cellphone companies know that their products will be going into pockets. They don't really push for people to wear them on your belt. Which is where you should be placing them. 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I placed my phone in the glove compartment of my car. I need to stress: I *placed* it there. I didn't drop it. I didn't throw it. The temperature that day was mild. When I returned, the inner screen had cracked. I contacted Tmobile and they said they wouldn't do anything. I've since filed a complaint with the FCC. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have had my shadow for 2 months and cracked the screen while in my pocket yesterday. I bought in on ebay so as not to extend my impossibly long tmobile contract after cracking the screen on my tmobile dash (after a legitimate fall onto a concrete floor). I don't think I have any recourse with the company, is there anything I can do? Has anybody had any luck replacing the screen? I have confidential info related to my job on the phone and really can't send it off to just anybody. Frantically needing to get back up and running i purchased a blackberry rim 7230 again off ebay only to realize afterwards that it has no camera! I can't live without my phone camera an am only trying to get by with a phone until I can use the iPhone with tmobile or until my contract finally runs out. The real problem with these cell phone companies is that they subsidize the cost of these expensive phones over an unrealistic time period. Show me a phone that will sustain heavy, daily use for 2 years! Do you find this valuable?

"Ive now had two of the Shadows. Both screens crack. The first one Tmobile replaced. The second they won't saying I crushed it. It has to be a probelm with the screen to break so easy. I'm looking for more people who have had this problem so I can take it to Tmobile."
I will support you to protest T-Mobile. I have had some problems with the phone and just got a new one AND I am still having some problems with the phone.
You should proceed to complaint to the Better Business Bureau and too the Attorney General.

Made extra special effort to be careful with it . 3 days after purchase put it in its case, then in my poctet with keys and apparently thats a NO NO. Tmobile called it my fault for putting it in a pocket with keys (even with the case on!). I'm done with them, my fam has had a plan with them for 6 years and I can't take it anymore. Just to let you all know, T-MO is not a BBB company they have an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB (here: http://alaskaoregonwesternwashington.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=114&bbb=1296&firm=27026359). T-Mo lives and dies by their FCC licenses so if you want to see results complain to them. I have been working in the Windows Mobile and cell phone manufacturing industry for over 5 years now and I can say that this is a poorly designed screen. LCDs are by nature fragile so the manufacturer needs to protect that fragile display by putting a piece of robust plastic on top of it. Any lay person can look at the plastic over the display and see how it bends when you press your finger on it to slide it open. The plastic covering is simply to frail to withstand the constant NORMAL use by the user of opening the device. Adding another one or two mm to the thickness of the screen would make it flush with the soft buttons and dial but provide about a 10 fold increase in protection for the LCD.

If you are a device manufacturer and you are not designing your phone with a use case of "putting the phone in your pocket (or purse)" then you are doing a horrible job at designing phones. These are consumer devices not pieces of easily disturbed scientific lab equipment. They should be robust and solid and able to withstand a certain amount of normal wear and tear from being used. HTC tried to cut too many corners with this phone and now the consumers are left to pay for that mistake. T-Mobile needs to realize that HTC sold them a defective product and needs to negotiate a change in the warranty policy or at least a way to share in the expense of getting these repaired.

How long did it take for you to hear back from the FCC? And how long did it take t-mo to contact you? Do you find this valuable?

Mine fell off my bed to the ground and cracked, like someone else I heard here. BTW. For those of you complaining about dialling. I just dial the number on mine and it works without any other buttons. Maybe its a setting. I cant tell since my screen is broken, but I do keep using it for calls. Do you find this valuable?

I got a replacement phone for the $9.95 S/H, as I previously stated, and this time I insured it for the $5.00/mo, but I seldom take it anywhere, it sits on the end table like a landline phone, it's just to delicate to rely on. Do you find this valuable?

I actually have a mix of both to say about my shadow. First off, i got it for christmas last year, and it lasted me a good 11 months, ive dropped it 414569841 times, and NEVER ANY damage to the phone. The only reason i broke it was i was out riding Go-Karts with it in my pocket....
Probably my mistake, although, i definatly will be complaining because Im not paying to get it fixed or replace, it still lasted a good, long time. and people honestly, if you use a case, there is very slim chance of you breaking your phone.
I suggest this one
http://www.amazon.com/RUBBERIZED-TEXTURE-PROTECTOR-T-MOBILE-SHADOW/dp/B0012O87BM?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1209936834&sr=8-1
just TWO dollars, and it made my phone last for a good 11 months!
Still considering self screen replacement if not done for free by T-mobile. So please get those diagrams up to replace the screen!
