Dialing a pause?
Jan 15 2008, 5:08 PM EST | Post edited: Jan 15 2008, 5:08 PM EST
I'm stumped. I need to be able to put in a pause when dialing to use services like *82, and similar functions. I have searched the entire user manual and I cannot find the answer anywhere. Any ideas? Do you find this valuable?

Try either the letter p or a , (comma). 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

there's no p or comma on the dial pad. Any other ideas? Do you find this valuable?

There is if you're entering it as a new contact. As far as I know, you can't dial a p or a comma as a one-time dial entry because the phone assumes you have access to the keypad to dial any extra numbers you need to after the call connects. If it's saved as a contact, it'll auto dial whatever you enter in the phone number field in the contact. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

So, how do you use a *82 function without being able to enter a pause? Do you have to change the settings under caller id everytime? Do you find this valuable?

If you're dialing so you're unblocking your caller ID (I'm guessing that's what *82 does on your network) then just dial *82 then the number directly after it.

i.e. I'm calling 1 (646) 555 1212 and want to unblock my caller ID, I'd just enter *8216465551212 then press the send/talk button. No spaces, pauses or anything.

Does that work for you?

No. It will dial, but it shows up on caller id as an error. Do you find this valuable?

Double check with your carrier just in case they use a different code. I just tried it on my HTC Wizard (specifically T-Mobile MDA) and it worked like a dream on T-Mobile USA. Caller ID showed perfectly on another phone. Do you find this valuable?

On the Fuze, and posslibly other touch phones where you can choose the type of keyboard.
Use the "Compact Qwerty" keyboard. there is a "W" and a "P". Otherwise when the cursor is positioned on a field where only numbers are used, the phone defaults to a numbers only keypad. It took me a minute to figure this out.. Hope this helps.

When you're entering data in as a new contact, or if you want to edit a contact, for every comma (,) you get a two second dialing delay, from the time the other end answers. Most times that single delay is good enough, sometimes you have to add two commas for a long enough delay.

And no, you can't dial a pause if you dialed manually, only via Contacts. Hope that helped. I have lots of numbers stored in my contacts with these pauses in them...
