Battery Life
Dec 28 2007, 5:04 PM EST | Post edited: Dec 28 2007, 5:04 PM EST
I've sent in emails directly to TMO and to HTC. Neither company wants to respond to my requests for clarificaiton on the lack of battery life. This is on my son's phone that is not connected via the email push, nor wi-fi, nor bluetooth, nor beaming. All that stuff is turned off, yet the battery is gone after a few hours.

I sure would love to see a firmware fix or a new replacement battery made available. I was actually thinking of getting one myself and replacing my clunky blackberry, but can't do so until it has the ability to be used for more than a couple of hours wihtout a recharge.

Someone in an official capacity needs to respond.

I'll go on-record and state our Shadow is going back to T-Mobile. The battery life is unacceptable. DO NOT BUY this unless you don't mind having to have power available after three hours standby.

Not that you will see a dramatic difference, but still.. one way to extend the charge is to turn off wifi, bluetooth, activesync, and just keep the phone on.. It will take you through the day :) the worst offenders are wifi and bluetooth. Hope that helps..
I wonder why shadow has a such a small battery.. At least HTC should include a backup battery..

my battery is fine and has lasted 3 days of normal use, you have to make sure to shut down any running programs and anything your not using connection wise, its rather easy. Do you find this valuable?

My battery life declined on the 8525 when i added wm6. It's cut in half from 4 days to less than 2 with only communications running for phone and e-m. I turn bluetooth off when not using and wifi off. I would like to get a day with some of this on. Is there a fix somewdher? Do you find this valuable?

If I charge my Mogul, and then leave my house in the morning with a fresh charge, my battery will need to be recharged after about 5 or 6 hours whether I have used the phone or not (with no other programs running). And, the battery is just the least of my concerns with this phone. If everything worked the way it is supposed to, this would be a great device. As it is, it's just a waist of my time and money. This is the most unreliable phone I've ever owned. Do you find this valuable?

I have a shadow also and was NOT impressed with the battery life either. Prior to the shadow I had a Nokia 6133 flip. I took my shadow back to Tmobile the day after I bought it and told him, "I thought I asked for an upgrade. My Nokia lasted twice as long!" He told me to turn down the brightness, etc., and then turn off all the automatic checking for updates and email and that helped a lot but still by the end of an 8 hr day it was down to 2 bars. When it got down to 1 bar it wouldn't really do anything on the net or FB. I did get an extended battery recently and that has helped a lot with the battery life, but certainly doesn't help with the crappy phone which is now freezing, some keys don't work and the screen turns black and it restarts itself or shuts off for no reason. WOW we are really digging in the graveyard now to show our displeasure. Digging up a year and a half old thread just to complain some more ?

You know it disturbs the other corpses, I think we get it , you hate your Shadow. We got it after the first nine old threads you dug up to complain, but I guess we had to make it an even ten. : )

Denco7,
I didn't "dig up a year and a half old thread." I looked for posts that had relevant issues to mine. I still have my Shadow right now this very day and I've been having problems so I called HTC and talked to them. Then I googled and found this site. So, my post, to me, at least, is RECENT and RELEVANT.
Maybe I'm just an idiot in that all the people who posted here either got their problems fixed or got rid of their original Shadow a long time ago!!!!
Additionally, I didn't write this simply to complain. I was frustrated and wanted help and feedback on others using the Shadow.
I have no idea why you are still on this site if you're not going to give Shadow feedback and your post didn't help me at all. I'm not impressed that you think cutting me down and labeling me a complainer is relevant under this thread rather than seeing I have a frustration that needed appropriate feedback and/or assistance.
Have a good day.

This is a users forum, it is frequented by users of HTC phones as a way of sharing ideas, problems and fixes, ( and yes even complaints ) It is not HTC Tech support nor does it have anything to do with HTC, The moderators are not paid by HTC nor are the sharing souls that frequent here to help people with their phones. ( my posts , friends and compliments are all easily read in my profile, if you care to see what I do here, as are your contributions ) No one is paid here by HTC ,. HTC does not offer support here, nor do they even read the forum. It is strictly a users forum.

You joined the forum at 11:54 on Friday and between 11:55 and 12:27 proceeded to dig up ten different Shadow threads and post complaints about your phone in all of them. The first post you made in a thread that hadn't been posted in since Aug 18 2008, a year ago. Your third post was in a thread whos last post was Jul 2008, over a year ago. Other thread's last posting dates were Feb. 13 2008, Jan. 6 2008, Feb. 5 2008, This thread hadn't been posted in since Feb, 2008 and the last three posts were about Moguls and Hermes, the last Shadow relevant post was Dec, 29. 2007, a year and ten months ago. Never in any of those posts did you ever ask an actual QUESTION or give an answer to a problem. You just related every post to how unhappy you were with your phone.

And as a result of your 10 post rant, 10 people with legitimate QUESTIONS, got knocked off the front discussions page , lowering their chances by about 75% of getting their relevant and legitimate questions answered. You have every right to express your opinion here, just type in "HTC Sucks" into the search and you will see. You should have used one of these threads, or started your own My Shadow sucks thread and I would have read it felt bad you don't like your Shadow as much as I love my Tilt and tried to help with answers to any questions.

My comments were not made for the purpose of " cutting you down " but were made to point out how unfair you were being to all the other members here by , in frustration , " spamming " the board trying to get HTC' s attention. There are many good people here with a lot of phone knowledge. Hang around, be fair, and maybe get your phone working well again. Do you find this valuable?

Spamming the board trying to get HTC's attention? Um, not. I was frustrated, not trying to get HTC's attention. And, I figured posting something now even though the threads were old might net me some valuable information. All it's netted me is you, whom I'm not fond of.
And, how do you know I'm not fair? I've already gone through 3 Shadows. The one they just sent me on Aug 21st froze 2 days after I had it. So, I will not apologize for what I have posted here. Everything I have said is true.

I had several Nokia phones a few years back. They had great battery life. They didn't do anything but make phone calls, but the battery lasted a long time. HTC devices are set up to do many things and have massive amounts of software running in the background which eats battery power. It is really important to check your Task Manager often and stop programs that you don't need to have running. When you sync with a PC, the activesync program continues to run in the background so it will be available quickly when you next need it. If you stop it that saves battery power. My old 8125, used to check email manually several times a day to save battery power. If you're checking for new email every minute, that causes the transmitter in the phone to activate 60 times per hour. This is a big battery drain. The battery in my laptop is bigger than my entire Tilt, but only lasts 4 hours on an airplane but I haven't thrown it out the window at 35,000 feet yet. Keep and eye on your task manager and only run the programs you need to have running. My Fuze has twice the battery life of my Tilt - because it's newer! Wait til you have a device with GPS!

Denco7,
You're just not a nice person. I'm sorry you are upset that I was upset. I'm sorry you think I hashed up old news but I didn't have this phone in 2007 and only at the end of 2008. I wish you the best in life and hope that you treat others with more respect instead of such scrutiny as if you can possibly understand why they do what they do.
Good day.
