The other thing to look for is the 850 Mhz band which is also used in the United States for 3G.

I'm having the same problem, cannot use 3G with my HTC Touch Dual with ATT in North America. Is this something HTC could fix in software? Do you find this valuable? |

i have read posts at other sites that there is NV programming that could potentially open up the 850mhz frequency so we can use this phone on AT&T's 3g network. I have heard tho that T-Mobiles network will work with this phone since they are on 2100mhz

The new T Mobile 3g network in the USA uses 1700/2100 MHz whereas in Europe and other parts of the world the 3g network uses 1900/2100 MHZ. No existing HTC phone will be able to connect to this 1700/2100 network. This frequency will be the standard for North America and the phone manufacturers will have to produce new phones to use this network. Both of these frequencies are generly called 2100 MHZ but they are not the same. There is , to make it simple both a low band (either 1700 or 1900) used to connect to the tower and 2100 from tower to phone. AT&T uses 1900MHz so the existing HTC 3g phones will work if they are tri band 3g.

You can now buy a U.S. 3G Touch Dual at Best Buy now. I have also read that the Touch Diamond with U.S. 3G bands will be available.

I got the Best Buy version and no 3g. It said 3G for about 2minutes while I was on the phone with ATT, but they said the IMEI number says the phone is a 2g phone.

Hey guys, I am field Engineer contractor For ATT And T-Mo. Currently I am in Austin and San Antonio doing Carrier adds for ATT. Recently I bought the Tilt off craigslist for dirt cheap and wondered why so cheap. I found that I have the same issue as all the rest (the reason it was so cheap) . I can get 3G to work in San Antonio but not in Austin. I found the difference in the two areas is that San Antonio area uses only the Ericsson 850 low band width for 3G and Austin is currently using Ericsson 1900 High band for now. We have recently added 850 to Austin but not yet optimized for public release. I have flashed my Tilt with Hyperdragon ROM to select between 1900 GSM when there is no 850 3G available. If anyone out there know of a CAB or ROM to allow me to have both the PTT feature and Band selection let me know. via my ghost email Nokiaguru4u@yahoo.com...

Hey Guys.. Was anyone able to get this to work? I have a HTC touch Dual in the US and it will not work on 3G because of the frequency band. I gather there are people who have been able to make this phone aquire a 3G signal in the US by flashing the ROM. Is this possible? Can someone please send me a link to where I can find a way to do this?

Not to steer the topic away from the HTC segment, but I recently started receiving 3g on my Nokia E51 in Dallas, which is a phone that only utilizes 3g 850 / 2100 mhz band. I was searching around for more info and can't find any. At&t still reports only 850 / 1900, so I assume they're broadening the 850 range? That's all I can figure. Can't argue though, I'm receiving an average of 550 kbit+ now, over the 75-90 kbit before. Props to At&t for moving in a more worldly direction. Now to find an additional battery that's as good as the original :)
