Telus HTC Touch P3050 - Soft Reset

All you need to do is push the reset button with the stylus on the bottom of the device

Telus HTC Touch P3050 - Hard Reset

!Warning this will remove all data and return all settings to default!

1.Press and hold the TALK and END buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device.

2.Release the stylus, but continue pressing the TALK and END buttons until you see the following message on the screen:This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press Action to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.

3.Release the TALK and END buttons, and then press ENTER on your device.

OR

1.Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Clear Storage.

2.Enter “1234” then tap Yes.

Telus HTC Touch P3050 - Set A Password

Tap Start|Settings|Lock

Now check the box that say's "Prompt if device unused for" and select the amount of minutes you would like the device to wait before requireing a password wile sleeping (select 0 to ask for password on wake up no matter the amount of time passed).

Select password type and enter your password and confirm by entering it again in the space below.

Deflect a bullet or knife blade Who needs a bullet-proof vest when you've got a cell phone? Take this guy from Louisiana whose Motorola Razr in the breast pocket of his shirt stopped a stray bullet from piercing his heart. There's been a surprisingly high number of instances where a cell phone has stopped a bullet or knife, thereby preventing a fatality. This is particularly impressive considering the fact that all my cell phone has ever done is fly out of my pocket and land face down on the pavement.

Change the sleep and backlight settings	Start > Settings > System (tab) > Power. On the Advanced tab of the Power settings screen, you can specify when your device turns off (to conserve battery power). Note: Changing these settings will impact the length of time that the screen stays on while on a call
Switch to/from sleep mode	Tap the Power button once, or remove the stylus from the device to wake it up
Add or remove cities in the Weather tab of TouchFLO 3D	Tap Menu > Add Location or Remove Location. Note: Add Location will only be available if there is room for more cities, this application will support up to 10 cities at a time.
Switch between cities in the Weather tab of TouchFLO 3D.	Quickly swipe your finger upwards or downwards on the current weather to switch cities.
View a 5-day weather forecast.	Tap 5-day while viewing current weather.
Switch the function of the Long Press End Key	Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Long Press End Key
Lock the device screen and keys	First, verify your Long Press End Key settings and ensure that “Lock Device” is selected. Next, press and hold the End Call Button

Perform a Soft Reset	Use the stylus to lightly press and hold the Reset button on the back of your device. Your device restarts and displays the Today screen.
Perform a Hard (Factory) Reset	Slide the Volume slider down and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the back of your HTC Advantage. Note: This will erase all information on the device and restore it to factory default settings.
Send a Digital Photo or video	From today screen, tap Start > Programs > Pictures and Videos > Select picture or video you want to send > press Send > Select email account you wish to use or MMS
Turn On/Off Bluetooth	Press Comm Manager button on the right side of the device, tap the Bluetooth icon to turn Bluetooth on/off

Troubleshooting issues
To	Do
If the battery discharges fast	Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth after using them. Disable Direct Push in Comm Manager. Verify power management settings. (Start > Settings > System tab > Power > Advanced tab) Verify the backlight timeout setting, and suggest the user to decrease it. (Start > Settings > System tab > Backlight > Battery Power tab)
If the screen freezes, responds slowly, or has no response	Soft reset the HTC Advantage by pressing the RESET button with the stylus. Verify that the user is not pressing keys too quickly or repeatedly. Verify battery power level.
If the HTC Advantage is unable to get a UMTS signal	Verify if the SIM card is inserted properly and has been activated. Verify if the SIM card is not locked or temporarily disabled. Check network coverage area with service provider. Test the SIM card in another phone to check if it is damaged.
If the HTC Advantage cannot dial out or receive calls	Verify if the SIM card is inserted properly and it is already activated. Check network coverage area with service provider Check phone function is enabled in Comm Manager. If flight mode is enabled, turn off flight mode. If fixed dialing is enabled, disable it. (Start > Settings > Personal tab > Phone > More tab > Settings button).
If the Camera screen frequently blacks out with a message	To save battery power, the HTC Advantage blacks out the screen and displays the notification message when the Camera program is not in use for two minutes. To reactivate the Camera screen, simply press the CAMERA button
If you are experiencing problems in connecting to and browsing the Internet	Verify if the account has been activated for wireless data services and that the HTC Advantage has the correct GPRS settings. Set up the HTC Advantage for cellular dial-up, verify if the user’s service plan includes CSD dial-up. If using Wi-Fi, verify if the user is within the coverage area of a wireless network, Wi-Fi is enabled on the HTC Advantage, and the correct network key has been entered.
If you have problems in connecting a Bluetooth headset to the HTC Advantage	Check Bluetooth headset is functioning properly. Verify if Bluetooth on the HTC Advantage and the Bluetooth headset are both set to discoverable mode. Check to make sure the correct pass code is used. Verify if the HTC Advantage is paired with another Bluetooth device. If it is, disconnect from that device and try pairing again with the Bluetooth headset.
If the HTC Advantage cannot sync Outlook e-mails automatically with the Exchange	Check the Exchange Server settings have been entered on the HTC Advantage and are correct. Verify if Direct Push is activated in Comm Manager. Verify if the corporate network is using Exchange Server SP2 with Exchange ActiveSync. Verify if the HTC Advantage has successfully completed an initial sync with Exchange Server via GPRS.
If ActiveSync on the PC cannot detect the HTC Advantage	Verify if ActiveSync 4.5 or above is installed on the user’s PC. Try unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable. In ActiveSync on the PC, the Allow USB connections check box must be selected in File > Connection Settings.

General Tips

Soft Reset	While the device is powered on, insert the stylus into the Reset button located on the bottom of the device to the left of the USB port.
Hard (Factory) Reset	Select Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage. Type 1234 in the box and tap Yes. Note: This will erase all information on the device and restore it to factory setting.
Send a Digital Photo or video	From today screen, tap Start > Programs > Pictures and Videos >Select picture or video you want to send. Tap Send > Select email account you wish to use or MMS.
Turn On/Off Bluetooth	Select the Comm Manager icon from the Programs tab in HTC Home or go to Start > Settings > Connections tab > Comm Manager > and tap the Bluetooth Icon.
Turn On/Off Wi-Fi	Select the Comm Manager icon from the Programs tab in HTC Home or go to Start > Settings > Connections tab > Comm Manager > and tap the WiFi Icon.
Turn on/off flight mode	Tap signal icon on top of screen, select the signal icon again and tap the link for Comm Manager and then tap Airplane Mode. Note: signal icon changes to X when phone is in flight mode.
Modify the backlight time-out period	Tap Start > Settings > System Tab > Backlight>Battery power/External Power tabs. Note: default is 30 seconds when not in use. External power default is 1 min.
Close running programs and/or to free up additional memory	Tap the Task Manager shortcut (drop down icon in the upper right corner of the Today screen). Select desired action from drop down menu.
Automatically close applications when the "X" is tapped	Start > Settings > System tab > Task Manager > Button tab and select "End Programs" by tapping "X".
Change the default settings for the "X" Button	Go to Start > Settings > System Tab > Task Manager > Button.
Reassign programs or shortcuts to program buttons	Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Buttons. Tap the button you want to reassign. Set-up E-mail

Adding an E-mail Account	The Set Up E-mail application provides virtually unlimited access to your work and personal E-mail right on your device. Instantly access your E-mail from Microsoft® Exchange, AOL®, AIM®, Yahoo!®, Windows Live™, Earthlink®, Comcast®, and many more, including any POP3 or IMAP4 server. Tap Set up E-mail on Today screen, or tap Start > Programs > Set Up E-mail. To add an E-mail account, select the desired account from the presented list, then follow the instructions on the screen and provide your E-mail address and password. E-mail accounts like Gmail®, Comcast®, Earthlink®, Adelphia®, etc., can be added by selecting Other E-mail. Tap Finish to attempt synchronization with your mailbox. The last 3 days worth of E-mail will be downloaded to your device. Once your account has been added, a new Inbox for this E-mail account can be found at Start > Messaging. You can add a maximum of 6 E-mail accounts in addition to one Outlook account.
Outlook Set-up Using Active Sync	Synchronize your device directly with your Microsoft Exchange Server. No need to connect with your computer. Just follow the simple step-by-step instructions below. All you need is your Exchange login name, password, domain and mail server details. Tap Set Up E-mail on the Today screen, or tap Start > Programs > Set up E-mail. From the list of accounts, select Outlook E-mail and then tap Next. (You do not need to have the device connected to a PC). Tap "Set up your device to sync with it" Enter your server address. If required, check teh box "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection". Enter your user name, password, and domain. Check the box to "Save Password". Check the boxes of the items you wnat to sync. To change E-amil size and amount, highlight E-mail and Choose "Settings." Then press Finish when done. Wait for ActiveSync to sync your data for all categories you chose. Schedule your sync times easily by tapping Menu > Schedule

From the HOME Screen

How to Customize Home screen?	You can customize your Home screen to display applications, shortcuts, and widgets. Add an application, widget, or shortcut to the Home screen. 1. Touch and hold a vacant spot on the Home screen. 2. Touch Application, Shortcut, or Widget from the pop-up MENU 3. Touch the desired application, shortcut, or widget. 4. The icon is added to the Home screen. To remove an icon from the Home screen: 1. Touch and hold the icon that you want to remove. 2. Touch and slide the icon to the trash can at the bottom of the screen.
Open or select items	Tap any icon to start using the application
Return to the Home Screen	Tap the Home key

Turn on all caps	Press SHIFT (the onscreen up Arrow Button) twice press SHIFT again to turn off caps
Highlight text	Press and hold the Trackball, select “Select All” or Select Text”. If choosing “Select Text” use the trackball to highlight the desired Text.
Cut highlighted text	Once the text has been highlighted, press and hold the trackball and then select “Cut All”.
Paste text in clipboard	Press and hold the Trackball and select Paste.

Calendar & Contacts

Access the Calendar	Press HOME, open the Applications Tab and touch Calendar.
Create a new appointment in the Calendar	Press HOME, open the Applications tab and then tap the Calendar icon. Touch and hold on the date you want to add the appointment for and select New Event from the pop-up menu or Press MENU>New Event.
Add a new Contact entry	Press HOME, then tap Contacts. Your contacts list appears > Press MENU, then tap New contact > enter all information you want to store for the contact > When finished, tap Done.
How to add E-mail address to contact list	From within the email, Touch and hold on the email address that you want to add and then from the pop-up menu, select either Add as New Contact or Add to Existing Contact.

To silence your phone	To silence your phone quickly, press and hold END CALL/POWER, then tap Silent mode on the options menu.
Change volume during a call	You can also increase or lower the volume during a call. Use the up/down volume button on the left side of the device during a call
How to add contacts from incoming calls	If a person who is not in your list of contacts calls you and you want to save that personal phone number, tap and hold the phone number in the Call log tab and then tap Save to Contacts on the menu.

Zoom in to a webpage	Touch the screen to open the zoom control tab.
Zoom out of a webpage	Touch the screen to open the zoom control tab.
How to change out of landscape mode	The screen automatically changes to landscape orientation based on the position of the device.
Quickly find web pages	You can also enter the web page address directly on the Browser screen. Make sure that the cursor or selection is not on a text box within the web page, then start entering the web page address.
Add a bookmark	You can also bookmark a link inside a web page. To bookmark a link, highlight it using the TRACKBALL, press and hold the TRACKBALL, then tap Bookmark link. Enter a name for the bookmarked link, then tap OK.
View multiple web pages	When you have opened several web pages, you can scroll your finger up on the windows screen or roll the TRACKBALL down to view more windows.

Add a picture to a text message	To reply a text message with a picture message, press Menu, then tap Add subject, or Attach. The message is automatically converted into a picture message.
View archived ISP E-mail messages	To view your archived messages, in the Inbox conversations list, press MENU, then tap View labels > All mail.

General Tips

Tips to make your battery last even longer	1. On the Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Touch Settings and select any of the following to conserve battery life: Wireless controls: Turn off Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi when not in use. Sound & display: Decrease screen brightness and screen timeout (or simply press the red End key to switch off the screen when you are done). Data synchronization: Disable automatic sync. Sync e-mail and calendar manually. Location: Turn off GPS satellites and Use wireless network when not in use.
How to check what applications are running	Press and hold the Home Key for 5 seconds on the home key. You will up to 6 running applications.
Will this device support streaming video	Only YouTube. Anything needing flash, a plug in, or player will not work out of the box. The device can stream video with "rtsp" scheme or "http" scheme with one of the following mime type, "video/mp4", "video/3gp", "video/3gpp", and “video/3gpp2".
How to stop all running applications on the device	Power the device off by pressing and holding the Power Button and then selecting Power Off
Full status bar	When the Status bar is full, tap "+" to display hidden icons/notifications.
View notification panel	You can also open the notifications panel on any Home screen by pressing MENU and tapping Notifications.
Multiple notifications	If you have multiple notifications, scroll down the notifications panel to view more notifications.
Manual-sync applications	When Auto-sync is disabled, you can force synchronize individual applications, such as Gmail or Calendar, by selecting their respective check boxes, or by pressing the MENU button and tapping Refresh.
Supported audio file for ringtone	You can use .wav, .mid, .mp3, .wma, or other types of sound files that you downloaded from the Internet or copied from your computer as ring tones.

What is Android?

Developed by the Open Handset Alliance, Android brings Internet-style innovation and openness to mobile phones.

Android™ delivers a complete set of software for mobile devices: an operating system, middleware and key mobile applications. The Android Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available.

Open

Android was built from the ground-up to enable developers to create compelling mobile applications that take full advantage of all a handset has to offer. It was built to be truly open. For example, an application can call upon any of the phone's core functionality such as making calls, sending text messages, or using the camera, allowing developers to create richer and more cohesive experiences for users. Android is built on the open Linux Kernel. Furthermore, it utilizes a custom virtual machine that was designed to optimize memory and hardware resources in a mobile environment. Android is open source; it can be liberally extended to incorporate new cutting edge technologies as they emerge. The platform will continue to evolve as the developer community works together to build innovative mobile applications.

All applications are created equal

Android does not differentiate between the phone's core applications and third-party applications. They can all be built to have equal access to a phone's capabilities providing users with a broad spectrum of applications and services. With devices built on the Android Platform, users are able to fully tailor the phone to their interests. They can swap out the phone's homescreen, the style of the dialer, or any of the applications. They can even instruct their phones to use their favorite photo viewing application to handle the viewing of all photos.

Breaking down application boundaries

Android breaks down the barriers to building new and innovative applications. For example, a developer can combine information from the web with data on an individual's mobile phone -- such as the user's contacts, calendar, or geographic location -- to provide a more relevant user experience. With Android, a developer can build an application that enables users to view the location of their friends and be alerted when they are in the vicinity giving them a chance to connect.

Fast & easy application development

Android provides access to a wide range of useful libraries and tools that can be used to build rich applications. For example, Android enables developers to obtain the location of the device, and allows devices to communicate with one another enabling rich peer-to-peer social applications. In addition, Android includes a full set of tools that have been built from the ground up alongside the platform providing developers with high productivity and deep insight into their applications.

From the HOME Screen

See programs and applications	To open the application list, drag the application tab upwards.
How to Customize HOME screen?	You can customize your Home screen to display applications, shortcuts, and widgets. Add an application, widget, or shortcut to the Home screen. 1. Touch and hold a vacant spot on the Home screen. 2. Touch Application, Shortcut, or Widget from the pop-up MENU 3. Touch the desired application, shortcut, or widget. 4. The icon is added to the Home screen. To remove an icon from the Home screen: 1. Touch and hold the icon that you want to remove. 2. Touch and slide the icon to the trash can at the bottom of the screen.
Open or select items	Tap any icon to start using the application
Return to the HOME Screen	Tap the HOME key
Access the System Status (Signal strength, Network, battery level, etc)	From the HOME screen Select MENU > Settings > About Phone > Status
Read and Dismiss notifications (alarm, reminders, new message indicator, etc)	When you see a notification in the status bar, tap the bar and slide your finger down the screen to open the list of notifications. To open the notification, tap the item. To clear notifications, tap Clear notifications at the top of the notification window. To close the notification window, slide your finger up the screen.
Add an applications shortcut	To quickly add an application shortcut to the HOME screens, tap the Applications tab, tap and hold an application icon, then release
Screen timeout	To turn off the screen quickly, press the END CALL/POWER button.

Finding contact quickly	To find a contact quickly from the HOME screen, open the keyboard and start typing their name. Your contact list appears and resolves to the letters you have typed.

Turn on all caps	Press SHIFT (up Arrow Button) twice press SHIFT again to turn off caps
Move cursor to the beginning or end of the line	Press ALT + roll TRACKBALL left or right

Calendar & Contacts
To	Do
Access the Calendar	Press HOME, open the Applications tab and then tap the Calendar icon.
Create a new appointment in the Calendar	Press HOME, open the Applications tab and then tap the Calendar icon. Touch and hold on the date you want to add the appointment for and select New Event from the pop-up menu or Press MENU>New Event.
Access Contacts	Press HOME and then tap the Contacts icon.
Add a new Contact entry	Press HOME and then tap Contacts. Your contacts list appears > Press MENU, then tap New contact > Open the keyboard and enter all information you want to store for the contact > When finished, tap Save.
How to add E-mail address to contact list	From within the email, Touch and hold on the email address that you want to add and then from the pop-up menu, select either Add as New Contact or Add to Existing Contact.

Phone

To silence your phone	To silence your phone quickly, press and hold END CALL/POWER, then tap Silent mode on the options MENU.
Change volume during a call	You can also increase or lower the volume during a call. Use the up/down volume button on the left side of the device during a call
How to add contacts from incoming calls	If a person who is not in your list of contacts calls you and you want to save that personal phone number, tap and hold the phone number in the Call log tab and then tap Save to Contacts on the MENU.
How to find a contact quickly	To find a contact quickly on the HOME screen, open the keyboard and start typing the contacts name. The contacts list appears and displays matches for the contact name that you have entered.

Browser

Zoom in to a webpage	Touch the screen to open the zoom control tab.
Zoom out of a webpage	Touch the screen to open the zoom control tab.
How to change out of landscape mode	The screen automatically changes to landscape orientation when you open the keyboard (except in Browser and Pictures, where you can set the screen orientation depending on your preference).
Quickly find web pages	You can also enter the web page address directly on the Browser screen. Make sure that the cursor or selection is not on a text box within the web page, and then start entering the web page address.
Add a bookmark	You can also bookmark a link inside a web page. To bookmark a link, highlight it using the TRACKBALL, press and hold the TRACKBALL, then tap Bookmark link. Enter a name for the bookmarked link, and then tap OK.
View multiple web pages	When you have opened several web pages, you can scroll your finger up on the windows screen or roll the TRACKBALL down to view more windows.

Messaging

Access Messaging	Tap or drag the application tab > Messaging
Open selected message	Tap on the message
Compose a new text message	1. From the HOME screen, touch the Applications button. 2. Touch the Messaging icon. 3. Touch New message. 4. At To, type the phone number or contact name. Contacts will appear as you type. Touch the contact. 5. Touch the message field and Type your message. 6. Touch Send.
Reply to a E-mail message	Open the e-mail message that you want to reply to, go to the bottom of the screen and Touch Reply or Reply to All
Forward a E-mail message	Open the e-mail message that you want to forward, go to the bottom of the screen and Touch Forward
Add a picture to a text message	To reply a text message with a picture message, press MENU, then tap Add subject, or Attach. The message is automatically converted into a picture message.
View archived ISP E-mail messages	To view your archived messages, in the Inbox conversations list, press MENU, then tap View labels > All mails.

General Tips

Tips to make your battery last even longer	1. On the Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Touch Settings and select any of the following to conserve battery life: Wireless controls: Turn off Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi when not in use. Sound & display: Decrease screen brightness and screen timeout (or simply press the red End key to switch off the screen when you are done). Data synchronization: Disable automatic sync. Sync e-mail and calendar manually. Security & Location: Turn off GPS satellites and Use wireless network when not in use.
How to check what applications are running	Press and hold the Home Key for 5 secounds on the home key. You will up to 6 running applications.
Will this device support streaming video	Only YouTube. Anything needing flash, a plug in, or player will not work out of the box. The device can stream video with "rtsp" scheme or "http" scheme with one of the following mime type, "video/mp4", "video/3gp", "video/3gpp", and “video/3gpp2".
How to stop all running applications on the device	Power the device off by pressing and holding the Power Button and then selecting Power Off
Full status bar	When the Status bar is full, tap "+" to display hidden icons/notifications.
View notification panel	You can also open the notifications panel on any HOME screen by pressing MENU and tapping Notifications.
Multiple notifications	If you have multiple notifications, scroll down the notifications panel to view more notifications.
Manual-sync applications	When Auto-sync is disabled, you can force synchronize individual applications, such as Gmail or Calendar, by selecting their respective check boxes, or by pressing the MENU button and tapping Refresh.
Supported audio file for ringtone	You can use .wav, .mid, .mp3, .wma, or other types of sound files that you downloaded from the Internet or copied from your computer as ring tones.
