Using Cingular 8525 As A Bluetooth ModemThis is a featured page

Note: This will only work with Cingular 8525 brand of this smartphone. It will only work with a Cingular SmartChip and a wireless internet package. Unless you have an unlimited internet package, you may be charged! Use at your own risk!

First, we need to ensure the Cingular 8525 has bluetooth turned on and is discoverable by other devices. Follow these steps to ensure that:

  1. Start Menu > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth
  2. Ensure that both the Turn Bluetooth On and Make This Device Discoverable to Other Devices check boxes are checked.

Now, on the computer, we need to pair the smartphone and the PC:

  1. Start Menu > Programs > My Bluetooth Devices > Search for Devices in Range
  2. Pocket_PC should show up. It will show up as your name if you have input your name under Owner Information under the Settings menu.
  3. Right-click Pocket_PC (or your name). Select Pair. Input the same 4-digit passcode in both devices when prompted. Try 0000.
  4. On the Cingular 8525, if a dialog box pops up, check Dial-Up Networking.
  5. On the computer, if a balloon pops up in your Quick Launch bar asking for permission, single-click it and confirm this action is ok.

To setup your Cingular 8525 as a bluetooth modem follow these steps:

  1. Start Menu > Programs > Wireless Modem
  2. Select Bluetooth under Connections
  3. Ensure the APN Setting is wap.cingular.
  4. Ensure Preset GPRS connections is checked.
  5. Hit Ok.
  6. Select Menu > Start from the bottom right.

The Cingular 8525 is now emulating a wireless modem. Now we need to go to our laptop / PC.

  1. Start Menu > Programs > My Bluetooth Places
  2. Right-click Pocket_PC, and select Dial-up Networking.
  3. When prompted, input the following settings:
  • User Name: ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
  • Password: CINGULAR1
  • Dial: *99#

Now, hit dial. You should be connected to the internet! Congratulations! Visit http://www.internetfrog.com and visit the Broadband Speed link to test out your new connection speeds!
