| Axenoix | U. S. Cellular - No update for HTC PPC6800 | 10 | Today, 11:37 AM EST by MiaHarris | ||||

I recently bought a HTC PPC6800 from U. S. Cellular. After looking at the HTC site, http://www.htc.com/us/support.aspx, I realized that U. S. Cellular does not have an available update for the phone. This means that the U. S. Cellular users cannot have access to the GPS and other improving features as Alltel, Qwest, or Sprint customers can. If you have USC service then you know that this is disappointing. You can E-mail USC from their official customer service website: https://www.uscc.com/uscellular/SilverStream/Pages/c_custserv.html Hopefully, if enough people demand this update they will provide. I provided the letter I sent to them below.
" The HTC PPC6800 cell phone provided by U. S. Cellular is an advanced and efficient device. Currently, the PPC6800 has a ROM version of 2.17.557.0 and a ROM date of 11/20/07. The Radio version is 1.64.00. The PRL version is 15052 with the PRI version of 1.31_027. So far, U. S. Cellular has not provided an update for the HTC PPC6800. Is there any information on the status of an update for the cell phone? This comes to the point of an inquiry because there are features that the HTC PPC6800 has but they cannot be used due to the lack of updates for the cell phone. These features could include improved battery life, GPS, improved Bluetooth, EV-DO Rev. A update, etc. Is U. S. Cellular providing the best for their customers? Alltel, Qwest, and Sprint currently have updates for their HTC PPC6800 phones. When will U. S. Cellular provide an update for their phones? " Remember to write in or send an E-mail to demand the best for the customers and their phones! Thanks!

I have a message stuck in my outbox that will not delete and will not move to sent (or anywhere else for that matter). I am looking for ideas on how to remove this message. Every time I sync or power off the message automatically sends. Needless to say I am far down on that persons Christmas list right now.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I looked at a mogul last night at a sprint store. It was a non operating demo phone and I couldn't find the stereo headphone jack. I asked and the saleslady told me that the mogul requires a mini usb stereo headphone jack connection? Huh? I've never heard of that before. True? In short, if I choose to use the mogul for mp3 duties with stereo headphones, what type of jack does it have and what type of headphones plug do I need? Thanks.

It's always better on a rechargeable battery to allow the battery to die completely before charging, charge it until it's 100%, and then remove it from the charger as quickly as possible upon reaching full charge. However, this isn't really practical for someone who wants to charge it and go to bed, or charge it all day at work because it took too long to die completely. I've heard that allowing it to die and completely recharging it about every 30 charges is a good way to go. Batteries will eventually fail (so don't buy an iPhone), they aren't very expensive, so spend 20 bucks on another one in 8 months or a year when yours goes bad.

Although I posted this in the "Smatphones in the News", just thought I would share this with my Bell 6800 brethren:
This is scary stuff! Does your phone tell on you? Does it let someone else track you, listen in on your conversations or your text messages or otherwise let them spy on you? Check out this news story to find out more on spyphone and other surveillance software that can allow other people to remotely monitor everything you do: http://www.wthr.com/global/story.asp?s=9346833&ClientType Although their recommendation of getting rid of the phone is a bit extreme, a hard reset or flashing it should wipe it out. You should also check the Extended ROM and the Storage Card to ensure it didn't install itself there. Having a strong password on the phone should also prevent anybody from installing such software on your phone.

Hey all, I have been using Skyfire for a while and it is a godsend. It loads web pages with the same look as the desktop with the ability to zoom in and out and supports YouTube! Also allows me to do my online banking at TD, which Pocket IE refused to to. Plus, pages load really fast, faster than Opera.
Although it's in beta, it is fairly stable. Give it try. www.skyfire.com

Since I have been flashing any new ROM to my 6800, my data connection (#777) doesn't work. I always get a "Cannot Connect" message when It try to connect. It did that with the UTStarcomm update, the SPRINT ROM flash, the NexVision kitchen ROM and now with NexVision iPhone ROM....
Any ideas what may cause that ??? Thanks

Hi,
I use an external Garmin Bluetooth GPS with their maps I have loaded on my phone. They are great, I would love to only carry the phone with me, if only I get the GPS to be unlocked. I have tried downloaded "MyGPS.CAB", but no luck, I am guessng it only works with Sprint phones. Does anyone have a solution on a Bell phone. Thank you! Stuart

Mogul Bug/Issue List (from 2 phones) 6800 HTC
Running 2.09.651.3 ROM 6/14/07 PRI 1.24_003 PRL 60610 HW Version 0003 D2.09 Active Sync 4.5.0 Build 5096 1.Using Windows Media player generally is a pain in the neck. Want to be able to just load the card with MP3’s and play them. Don’t need that application in the way, resizing and converting to WMA’s automatically and other nonsense like that. Pressing Music sends one off to the Sprint music store; as much as marketing is into making me interested in that, I'm not. Can't even use that player tab, stuff is off the screen, whatever. 2. Want a way to delete Sprint Software Store and Music and maybe Live Search from the front menu. Just using up screen space. 3. When playing music, power consumption should be kept to an absolute minimum. Eats the battery, playing through Bluetooth. Battery life is generally an issue. Barely lasts a day. 4. If one pauses the music player and has the “start music after phone call’ box checked, and one gets a call (that didn’t get answered), the music starts playing all by itself. What’s that noise coming from my pocket??? Re-start music should only start if one was playing before the call came in!!! 5. Bluetooth quality seems not great, more volume would be good, choppy at times when listening to music (through stereo phones). I saw the ROM update but am wary of the comments that Bluetooth will then randomly cut out. 6. Activesync should have a manual start feature, and before one starts the synchronization, one should be able to set the sync configuration. That is, it seems one can only tell it not to sync something only after it has synced! See next post for the rest of my diatribe!
