Screen alignment

Certain users have complained about the screen alignment going out of whack after a few hours of use. As far as anyone has been able to figure out, this is more of a hardware issue, and happens mainly when the TyTN overheats. The right hand side/edge of the screen expands from heat and begins to press on the touch screen, making it seem as if there are two presses at the same time, one at the stylus, the other at the very edge, moving the perceived press point off to the side.

Windows Media Player 11 + Windows Media Center

Currently due to some sort of a bug (probably Microsoft related) using Windows Media Player 11 Beta with the Media Center to synchronize TV shows creates videos that will not display on the TyTN. The audio plays, and the properties correctly display that the video is Windows Media Video 9 encoding, but instead of seeing the video the file will be treated like a plain audio file, and you'll only see the default blue background. Same issue with syncing audio albums you have album art for: the file will play and the image will sync, but will not show up in TyTN's media player. Rolling back to Windows Media Player 10 seems to solve this issue.

Camera Settings Lost After Reset

Changes to camera settings (contrast, saturation etc) are lost and factory settings are reloaded after a soft-reset.

Stylus Issues

Many users find that after some use, that the stylus becomes very loose and does not stay in it's silo properly. This has been reported to happen after weeks, day or even hours of use. Some even have the problem to such an extent that only gravity will hold the stylus in place otheriwse it falls out.

On the other hand, users have also complained about styli that get stuck and become very hard to remove.

This is an issue which also plagued the HTC Wizard device that came before it.

Shipping ROM not quite perfect

If you check on this forum at xda-delevopers.com (link) - you will find that there are several issues people are facing with the current shipping HTC ROM (dated 7/22 2006). Alarms that are set are not cleared correctly, especially if you change time zones after setting the alarm. The TyTN freezes at random moments, sometimes when scrolling with the scroll wheel, sometimes just when trying to bring it out of standby, sometimes just purely random. After running for several days without a soft-reset things get more and more unpredictable. Bluetooth turns itself off sometimes. Advanced Networking mode with USB doesn't work with Activesync. MicroSD card is sometimes not recognized if it is removed and put back it - you have to soft-reset the device to see the card again. Occasionally after charging overnight, the TyTN doesn't come out of standby and has to be reset. Currently it is recommended to power down completely and power up again at least once every 2 to 3 days to achieve predictable system behavior. Bluetooth A2DP (using a stereo bluetooth headset for music) is not working well yet. TCPMP doesn't work well at all for those who want to watch videos using that program.

Also, there is a strange software issue with many miniUSB chargers on the market. Observable behavior is that the TyTN will only charge when the phone is off, or only once on a charger until it goes into standby, and then it won't charge again when using a mini-USB car charger or AC charger. Typically these chargers worked fine on other devices. This doesn't matter if the charger is 0.5Amps or 1.0Amps. This turns out to be an issue that has existed on other HTC PDAs, and was resolved with a ROM upgrade. It has to do with whether a certain USB pin is floating or grounded in the charger cable. Let's just hope it gets resolved in a new ROM on this device as well. Click on this link to read more about this issue, as well as the technical background as posted eloquently by 'tadzio'.

Direct3D Drivers Broken

The Direct3D drivers on the current 8525 (1.34.502.1, 9/21/2006) includes code which makes it pretty much impossible to use anything that uses Direct3D on this phone with textures.

Here is a page that I wrote up about the issues.

I bought a HTC Touch few days ago and I am experiencing severe Screen Alignment issues. I have to manually do the Screen Align task to fix it and it reappears after some time. It would be nice if HTC can come up with a firmware upgrade.

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem or not,
The Stock camera application will not load, it states:

Error:
Unable to switch to preview mode. The parameter is incorrect.

You click okay and it closes itself. CoolCamera works fine, so it's not the hardware. The stock application also works when taking contact pictures.

I have bought HTC Touch Dual and installed Goodlink to get push mail service but interestingly QWERTY keyboard is not working in email. Everything else is working fine! Did you experience the same problem? I am using Good 5.0.3 and Mobile 6 OS?
