I can not locate a site for uprade. HTC no longer hosting. Most sites have 6.1 which does appear compatible with the Cingular HTC 8525.

I bought the new 8525 brand new off eBay, worked great for about 1 1/2 month and then all of a sudden its speaker went dead. The speaker at the back is not working, no sound from it for incomming calls, speaker phone is not working. The small speker at the front for phone does work for phone purpose, also the earphone is working but no sound from the back speaker. First I thought that it may be some software issue so I soft-reset it, but it didn't start working, I even did a hard-reset but that too didn't help. Since I bought off eBay and I'm not a Cingular subscriber, it has become so hard to get it repaired/replaced under warranty. Today I mailed it to HTC/Cingular repair center in Houston and I'm hopping that they will be able to fix it without costing much. I loved this phone till now but now I'm re-thinking about it stability. And why not I bought it for $400.00 and it didn't even worked for 1-2 years. Has any one faced with such problem?

I'm using ActiveSync 4.5.0 with my brand new Cingular 8525. I found that when I USB docked/tethered my device to my computer I couldn't connect to the Internet either through ActiveSync's pass-through connection capability or through the device's GPRS. With Internet Explorer I would get messages like 'the page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost".
My workaround after reading this site and others was to create a new "ISP connection" under Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks->New (under Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:). I named the new connection "ActiveSync" and in the Proxy Settings tab checked "This network connects to the Internet". As long as this new "ActiveSync" connection is selected while my device is docked I'm able to use my ActiveSync pass-through connection to get to the Internet. BTW, I tried using the built-in Work connection (by checking the "This network connects to the Internet") to no avail. I've done a little programming work with Microsoft's config xml that is used to create and map connections. With other Pocket PCs ActiveSync's pass-through connection is not automatically selected for Internet connectivity without having to manually set the current connection. I'm pretty sure the 8525 doesn't do this because there is something missing in the config xml that was created for Cingular (and which I'm sure gets loaded during the hard reset/reboot startup process). Perhaps I'll have time to look into that in the near future because I dock my device so often I'd prefer not to have to manually change the current connection.

My son cracked the screen on my 8525. Since it was out of warranty, I thought nothing loss if I tried to fix it myself. I bought a new LCD display and replaced it to find only a white screen. Then I took it apart and tried again and I have a colored screen that works perfect only it is like it is scooted over a 1/2 an inch. The left first 1/2 inch is white just like it is a white desktop and you moved the window over off the visable screen. For instance, the last t on ccontacts is all that is seen on the bottom. The top doesn't show the ok. At first I could just touch where the ok should be and it would work. Then I realigned the screen and messed myself up cause I can't ever touch where ok is or would have been. Now I touch exactly what I see.

If there's anyone out there who can help, I'm not sure where to start. I've been looking for a place like this and like one poster, wish I'd found this one first. Anyway, I too have been experiencing some inexplicable problems on my Hermes. It started off occassionally becoming unresponsive to the keyboard. Usually closing applications and closing and re-opening the slider would fix this. If not, then a soft reset certainly would. A little hassle, but minute and manageable.
Now, however, the problem has moved to the screen - sometimes it will show all white on power up, not showing my normal Softbank or WinMo splash screen. Also, I can't use the buttons on the face (call, end call, mail, internet explorer, directional, windows start, ok, etc.) a lot of the time, at least since this thing with the screen started happening. When the screen washes out white, I have to rely on muscle memory to manage a soft reset since I can't see the dialogue box to choose 'Yes' I want to shut down this device. Sometimes that won't even work and I'll try pulling the battery and SIM. When that doesn't work, I'll try pulling everything out and plugging it into the charger first, then replacing SIM and battery and then powering on. When that doesn't work, I just have to wait. Othertimes, the screen will work fine, but the LED shows orange rather than the normal flashing green. That indicates something is wrong, right? I've seen other people describing this problem and read about them having to meddle with the LCD connection. I'm really attached to this phone - I haven't even begun modifying it yet as I've only recently found this site where a WM6 ROM seems available (I haven't tried yet because of my current predicament). If anyone can give me any information about any of these symptoms, please help me save my phone. I'd be very grateful.

My phone was working just fine the other day. It went completely dead. I recharged it. Now it will not go off of the AT&T screen. I tried a hard reset on it now all it will do is show 4 lines going across the whole screen. (red green blue and white) The only way to turn it off is to take the battery out. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, right before it went dead it said that it did not have any memory left. So i went and tried to delete all of my text messages on it. I am Lost with out my baby HTC 8525. I have not had the phone but about 6 months. bought new off of ebay.

Dear members, pls my HTC 8525 developed a recent operational problem. Most often, it doesn't respond to keyboard instructions, if you attempt to type a text message, the it gives sentences which a not possible to edit. After phone calls, its difficult to stop the calls. Pls any one here advise me on what to do to remedy this ugly situation.
Regards, Martins

My question is, which new HTC phone should I go for?

My 8525 has turned off many times for no apparent reason. It has actually turned off during a call. I have checked the power settings and there is nothing that I can find that would tell it to shut off. I have temporarily pacified it with a soft reset or pulling out the battery and restarting it. It always comes back. Any help would be appreiciated.

I purchased the 8125 in July and had to return it, since it did not work properly in my BMW X3 bluetooth carkit. It paired the first time and worked excellent, answering calls...muting my stereo, voice-activated dialing...etc. HOWEVER, after that point, it doesn't pair correctly again. The headset icon appears on the phone, but it does not come through my car speakers or even communicate properly with my BMW. So...I waited until November and bought the new 8525 thinking that conflict would be resolved...but NO!!! It still does not work on my BMW bluetooth carkit. Any ideas? This even has bluetooth 2.0, but it doesn't work! HELP!!!
