I sent my HTC Shift X9501 for repair after bought 3 weeks before. HTC have it since 3 months ago! They told me MAYBE it's the grafic card defective, after a week, saying MAYBE it's the screen defect. They have it since 3 months ago. After 3 phones and 2 emails; they told me, to WAIT more weeks for repair on garantee. To do not comunicate anymore, to wait for the company comunicate me later, because if i intend to hurry up, they will charge me! So that HTC SHIT (oh! i did a mistake, i want to said: That HTC SHIFT 9501 is problematical. It begins after 2 and half weeks i bought new at Expansys, i phoned and wroted the screen, shows vertical lines stripes: Yellow, blue and red on all the screen. I plugged the USB adapter included in the box. The battery came hot when i pulled out that adapter, the plastic inside the USB socket came out, the battery camevery hot! The USB socket came also very hot, it begins to melt the plastic, i fast unplugged the battery. I saw the plstic separator inside the socket was out and 2 of the 4 pins inside USB was touching one to other, making short circuit. I had a lot of UMPC's without any trouble, it's the first one with so problems! They told me they will send me a RMA to send back after 10 days i received a RMA but for HTC in Indianapolis, Indiana, i sent it there, registered UPS. What to do now? I lost it? They are very bad...for a big company! I paid a lot for that lemon! $1500.USD. I live in Canada, the law does not protect the seller, i cannot pay $1000. of attorney! How can i get repaired on garantee or a complete refund or another one in exchange?

I was so excited to buy this device until I found out that it will not be using a full version of WM6. WM6 combined with vista was the primary reason I wanted this device. I had imagined using this device almost exclusively with WM6...I can take notes in class using pocket Work, edit time sheets with excel, browse the internet with opera mobile...all the stuff I usually do while having the battery last 7 days! ( not to mention all the cool free WM6 programs) then on those times I need full PC usage, I can boot up vista get it taken care of then shut it down again! I was sooo pumped. Ever since the original DuoCore UMPC was hyped I wanted wanted one of these devices with a keyboard...I have a Tilt and Love it...but I cravy more power, bigger screen/key pad and full pc functionality when I need it. Guess I will end up getting the HTC Adavantage and combine it with a laptop/desktop.

Oh yes, because the crapPhone from Crapple:
1) Has GPS 2) Works with third-party software 3) Has 30gb of HDD space for music, videos etc 4) Has a full QWERTY keyboard 5) Has any remotely vague understanding of security (against theft etc) 6) Has any kind of expansion such as a microSD slot 7) Can have basic user service performed on it 8) Can work with more than one carrier Yeah, the iPhone has all of that stuff the shift doesn't... Wait, I think I have that all backwards since the iPhone has NONE of that.

>> 3. REMOVE the KEYBOARD from the SHIFT's design ( You can provide a "Freedom BLUETOOTH or USB keyboard" and "Bluetooth or USB Mouse" if you want that can go in the same LEATHER BAG as the SHIFT for those that want to prop up their SHIFT at the STARBUCKS, you have to have somewhere to type before you can type ) You can even keep the KEYBOARD plastics, just remove the Keyboard and put MORE BATTERY there... the added battery will add even MORE weight to the base when the unit is propped up in "STARBUCKS MODE", but let the user use an External USB or Bluetooh keyboard, I would be using an External Mouse as well. The built-in keyboard is over-rated, just takes what could be valuable BATTERY space, I'd rather have more BATTERY time than a BUILT-IN Keyboard. The major need if your are going to run two sides of an HTC, is to be able to control the WM6 Phone in a little WINDOW (using SOTI PocketPC Controller Professional) via a hardwired USB to the PocketPC side from the VISTA side, and have VISTA running on 4GB memory (Use Standard SIMMS PLEASE) and a CORE 2 DUO Mobile Processor, T7600 or better, ( the added battery should help here ) HTC, HELLO, You've got a good concept with the CURRENT SHIFT, but many people won't buy it, because there is NO Phone and with a 800MHz processor it is way UNDER-POWERED to run WINDOWS VISTA. HTC, you have released all of the technologies listed in this stream, (GPS, PPC PHONE, 800HMz VISTA, ect) in your previous products what the market is asking for is a HIGH PERFORMANCE convergence device, HINT: a LOW or MID performance product will always sit on the shelf because no one wants to go backwards, even the the OLD HP TC1000 Tablet PC had a 1GHz Processor... 5 years AGO... see what I mean, at 0.8GHz (800MHz) the SHIFT is already OLD NEWS...

1. Let the PocketPC side of the SHIFT be a fully functional GPS PHONE (like the P3600 running WM6 2. External USB too, But the device needs a hard-wired built-in USB to VISTA w/PocketPC App called "SOTI PocketPC Controller" 7 "WM6's Internet Sharing" to Tether to the VISTA side to the POCKET PC PHONE side so that the PocketPC can be utilized while VISTA is RUNNING using the PocketPC Side as a TETHERD PHONE ( My VOICE PLAN has unlimited DATA, shame I cant use it on the SHIFT I would have to TETHER yet another 2nd POCKETPC, the P3600 with WM6 and TOMTOM GPS to the SHIFT to use my VOICE PLAN with UMLIMITED DATA on the SHIFT ) HINT, my VOICE PLAN SIM CARD WILL NOT WORK ON A DATA SIM SOCKET as evidenced with the AIRCARD 875, totally useless with the UMLIMITED DATA VOICE PLAN, only works with DATA PLAN... ( yes it can be made to work but data use is charged by the bit... 3. REMOVE the KEYBOARD from the SHIFT's design ( You can provide a "Freedom BLUETOOTH or USB keyboard" and "Bluetooth or USB Mouse" if you want that can go in the same LEATHER BAG as the SHIFT for those that want to prop up their SHIFT at the STARBUCKS, you have to have somewhere to type before you can type ) 4. Use the SPACE formerly dedicated to the KEYBOARD for BATTERY BULK to run a FASTER 64-Bit INTEL PROCESSOR 5. Did I mention a FASTER 64-Bit INTEL PROCESSOR? "Core 2 Duo, T7600 Mobile Processor" for VISTA, Separate VIDEO MEMORY from WORKING MEMORY ( i.e. design in a Mobile 512MB Video Card like LAPTOPs use ) 6. Provide two User Accessible SIMM SOCKETS for up to 4GB (2x2GB) memory ( When I DOCK the SHIFT, I don't want to give up PRODUCTIVITY ) 7. Put GPS and TOMTOM on the POCKETPC PHONE SIDE like is currently working on the P3600 and provide a CAR-MOUNT while between destinations, with an easy way to answer the phone (Caller ID on the screen when getting a call )

Did the boat sink? It's 3qtr2007 where I live, where is the HTC SHIFT? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPhoHwuK6ks - Peter Chow, Mr. 3rd Qtr 2007 himself, in his own words... The iPhone is looking better and better the later HTC SHIFT is getting to market, I need a MOBILE INTERNET platform, iPhone meets the bill for $499. I won't pay much more than $499 for MOBILE INTERNET device. If the boat sank, will there have to be a deep-sea-salvage operation before we finally see HTC SHIFT on the shelves? Just wondering....

Yes, iphone is great in the fact of having GPS, what what good use of GPS when there are no HSDPA connection? meaning browsing would be so damn slow but on the other hand, i guess thats what u'll get for not paying more than $499 for a mobile internet device. Plus, iphone's browser doesnt suppoort java nor flash. on the other hand, if u want a real mobile internet device, yes its bigger, but it can also hook on to google earth in matter of seconds without WLAN conntection.
PS: yes it is 3Q right now, WOW big surprise people! you know ur dates! 3Q has three months in it doesnt it? oh yea, forgot to mention, it clearly stated more info on Shift is coming out end of 3Q. Sometimes reading helps a lot more than listening to a speech that could have missed out a some few facts.

The iPhone "Real Internet Phone" is already on the market @ $499.00 How competitivly priced will the HTC Shift be to the iPhone. iPhone was first to market, after announcing in the same time-frame as HTC Shift, SHIFT has LOST the time-to-market challenge, thus losing MARKET SHARE as iPhone users are LOCKED into a 2-year or longer contract.

What is all this about an iPhone comparison?
The Shift isn't a phone. It's an ultra-mobile laptop. NOT a phone. This is completely unrelated to any phone, where did you guys get the idea that this is a phone? |

It would be really nice if either CDMA / 1Xrtt support were available for Shift and Advantage or a slot to plug in such support.

As people have said get the point. You can't compare the iPhone to the Shift. Where are the comparisons of the Shift to the Sony UX or TX ultraportable series or to other UMPC's? HTC should have raised the bar by incorporating phone functionality and also added a bluetooth headset as well as GPS with a car mount. A battery life of 3 hours is not sufficient and very disappointing.

one is just another phone with mp3 and vidoe player. on the other hand, Shift is an UMPC. What are you people comparing about? Shift isnt for you silly who think having a Ipod phone is something HUGE! o wait, they've been making mp3 phones for many years. Goog job guys, pay 500 for a bigger ipod than can also be use as a phone 3-4 hour talk time! good luck
