Hey,
I have just ordered the HTC Hero (or T-Mobile G2), my current phone is a HTC Touch Plus running windows mobile. I know the contacts and the calender can be transferred prettty painlessly. But i would also like to transfer all my SMS messages and call log. Certainly, i can back it up, but would I be able to restore onto the android machine. Ideas on a postcard !!! thanks

I got a touch HD in the UK which doesn't come with sprint, and with XP i have to use active sync which isn't much of a backup. HOWEVER:
ASSUMING that you loaded all files from your desktop PC, and that you have copies (or that you're happy to drag them off manually), and ASSUMING you use Outlook, the only thing which won't already be on your PC (if you sync everything with outlook as standard) is your SMS messages. For this I recommend Jeyo Mobile Extender, which syncs your SMS into your outlook like they were from another email account. Very easy. Anything else can be done manually (list of net favourites can be exported i believ, or scribbled, alarm times, contact favourites, taskbar & startbar customisations, owner settings, etc). It doesn't take long and it's not like you're likely to have to completely reinstall that often. |

OK. What backup app have you found that is reliable in restoring the entire device after a cold/hard reset?

Sprite Software is releasing the Beta 3 Version of Sprite Archie. Sprite Archie is an archiving utility that allows users to archive the SMS and Phone events of Windows Mobile5 and Windows Mobile 6 Devices. Sprite Archie monitors the traffic of your SMS messages and call history of Windows Mobile Devices. While monitoring your phone traffic Sprite Archie creates reports and send them to an specified e-mail account for archiving purposes.
This Beta 3 version fixes a number of issues found in our Beta 2 and also adds the following: • New graphical version of the status screen. On a touch screen device tapping the status icons changes the Archive destination (currently Email or None). • Remove the concept of archiving to Digest. Now when you choose archive to Email you have a choice of when to archive (Immediate or Daily). • Schedule time can now be set per Event Type (SMS Sent, SMS Received and Call Log) • Call Log events are now sent in the initial digest on installation (Beta 2 only sent SMS Received and SMS Sent). Get it Now: http://www.spritesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4786 Merry Xmas and Happy New Year, Sprite Team

There is also Sprite Backup for SM WM5 that does the same thing. There is a review on it shown below:
