ActiveSync Setup and OperationThis is a featured page

Microsoft ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows powered PC and Windows Mobile powered device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications from your desktop to your device. In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 so that you can keep your e-mail, Calendar, Notes, and Contacts updated wirelessly when you’re away from your PC.

When to use ActiveSync
  • Synchronizing Outlook email, calendar, contacts, and notes with your PC
  • Transferring documents, music, videos, and applications to and from your PC
  • Downloading corporate email directly from the MSFT Exchange Server

How to connect with your PC through ActiveSync
  • USB Cable
  • Infrared Connection
  • Bluetooth Connection
*ActiveSync to your PC will not work through WiFi. You can still access Exchange Server email through WiFi.

ActiveSync setup
Installation
  1. Install latest version of ActiveSync (version 4.1 or higher) by inserting the supplied “Getting Started” CD
  2. Upon completion of installation, ActiveSync will open with the “Get Connected” page
  3. Ensure that the device is on and connect to your PC with the USB cable
  4. Click “Next” after the device has been connected to your PC
  5. Once the device is connected to the computer, the Found New Hardware Wizard should recognize the device as a “Generic RNDIS” and then a “Windows Mobile Based Device”
  6. Once the computer has recognized the device, ActiveSync will open and attempt to detect the device

Creating a Partnership (Outlook)
  1. Once ActiveSync detects your device, the Synchronization Setup Wizard will automatically run; click “Next”
  2. Select the Outlook information you wish to synchronize (your selections can also be changed in the future); click “Next”
  3. Press “Finish” to save your settings and close the wizard
  4. ActiveSync will start the synchronization process with your device and display progress
  5. When synchronization completes, ActiveSync will show the “Connected” and “Synchronized” status
  6. All of the Outlook information you selected will be synchronized between your device and PC
