ActiveSync Installation

To synchronize information between your device and computer, use ActiveSync 4.1 or higher. Follow the steps below to synchronize information from Microsoft Outlook to your device.

Note: If you have lost the disk that came with your device, you can download the latest version of ActiveSync from the Microsoft website.

  1. Insert the Getting Started disk that came with the device into the CD-ROM drive.
    • The disk should automatically start and detect if ActiveSync and Outlook are already installed on the computer.
  2. Click Next to scan for versions of Outlook and ActiveSync on the computer.
  3. The program will detect which programs need to be installed.
  4. Click Next to install the applications.
    • Outlook will install first, followed by ActiveSync.
  5. The Install Shield will run and begin to install ActiveSync.
  6. Click Next on the first window to proceed with the installation.
  7. On the License Agreement window, check the button “I accept the terms..” after reading the license terms.
  8. Click Next to advance the installation.
  9. Enter the User Name and Organization, if desired.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Choose the destination folder in which to install the program.
    • It is recommended that the default location C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\ be used.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click Install to begin installation of ActiveSync.
  14. The Install Wizard will begin installing all necessary files to the computer, including drivers for the device.
  15. When the installation is done, the screen will indicate that the setup is complete.
  16. Click Finish.
  17. After the installation, ActiveSync will open with the Get Connected page.
  18. Connect the USB cable to the computer.
  19. Ensure that the device is on and connect it to the USB cable.
  20. Click Next after the device has been connected to the computer.
  21. Once the device is connected to the computer, the Found New Hardware wizard should recognize the device as a Generic RNDIS, followed by Windows Mobile-Based Device. It will then indicate that it has been installed and is ready to use.
  22. Once the computer has recognized the device, ActiveSync will open and attempt to detect the device. See Creating an ActiveSync Partnership.

CrowdedCranium Cingular 8125 Startup Disk needed. 1 Jul 27 2008, 4:32 PM EDT by CrowdedCranium

Yes, a mostly working Cingular 8125 (G4). I say mostly working. The "Private" phone speaker is not making noise at all period. However, speaker phone works fine, so It's still good to go.

This came with a lame battery that was replaced. That's all. The naked phone in a bag in a box.

Now, I have been charging it for a week using a USB cable to the desktop telling windows XP pro sp2 to cancel when it detects the device. And generally just having a great time poking keys and surfing the internet via the WiFi from my home 2wire portal. I have enjoyed it so much, I finally pulled the SIM card out of my trusty Motorola Razr V3 and slapped it into the 8125.

Going forward into the fog. I now want to do the sync thing and seriously consider the wm6 kitchen upgrades I have seen on the net. No worries about void warranty. Doh, I have none I am sure. No need to ask AT&T for WM6 I have read their policy is buy a new phone stupid!

So, down to the bottom line. Where can I download an ISO of the 8125 "startup disk"?

I have Downloaded Active sync 4.5, I have Outlook (2003 suite I think?). But, I am sure there are some device drivers Win XP will want to look over.
