AT&T 8525 does not Ring/Vibrate: Troubleshooting.

Below are some troubleshooting steps that you can use to determine whether or not your device needs to be replaced if is is having trouble with the ring and/or vibrate options. Your wireless carrier should be using similar steps to determine if the device needs to be replaced.

  1. Verify the devices Alert setting by going to Start>Settings> Sounds & Notification>Notifications Tab.
  2. Change the setting to a different alert.
  3. Place a test call to the device (check the device display to ensure that the call is reaching the unit, if the call is not reaching the unit, check the signal strength and change locations if necessary).
  4. If the display does not show and incoming call, this issue is not with alerts but with inbound/outbound calls and you should contact your wireless carrier for assistance.
  5. If the display did show the incoming call, change the alert setting back to the previous.
  6. Place a test call to the device.
  7. If the issue remains, move on to the following troubleshooting that is specific to the issue type.
AT&T 8525 does not Ring
  1. Ensure that the device is set to ring for inbound calls by going to Start>Settings> Sounds & Notification>Notifications Tab.
  2. Adjust the Ringer Volume and try another inbound test call.
  3. Check the device display to ensure that the call is reaching the unit. If there is still no audible alert, continue with the following troubleshooting steps.
  4. If the you are using a custom ringtone (downloaded from a 3rd party), select one of the defaults that come pre-loaded on the device.
  5. Place a test call to the device and check the device display to ensure that the call is reaching the device.
    • If the call is reaching the device and the ring can be heard, the issue is likely with the 3rd party download. Advise the customer what file formats the device can support for ringtones and refer them to the ringtone provider for further assistance.If there is still no audible alert have the user attempt to play file(s) using Windows Media Player. If no sound is emitted while using Windows Media Player, continue troubleshooting.
    • If the call is reaching the device but there is no ring, perform a Soft Reset by inserting the stylus into the Reset hole.
  6. Once the Soft Reset is complete, place another test call to the device.
  7. If the unit still does not ring, have the user back up all of their data and perform a Hard Reset by pressing and holding the 2 soft keys while inserting the stylus into the Reset hole on the device:

Once the Hard Reset and Customization process is complete, try another inbound test call to the unit. Note: Since a Hard Reset was performed, the alert will be set back to the default.
  • If the device rings, issue is resolved.
  • If the device does not ring, the device should now be considered for Warranty Exchange.
AT&T 8525 does not Vibrate
  1. Ensure that the device is set to vibrate for incoming calls: Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Sounds&Notifications.
  2. Place a test call to the device and ensure that the call is reaching the unit.
  3. If the unit still does not vibrate, change the Alert setting (Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Sounds&Notifications) from Vibrate to Ring and place another test call.
  4. If the ring is audible, change the alert back to vibrate and try another inbound test call.
  5. If the unit still does not vibrate, perform a Soft Reset by inserting the stylus into the Reset hole on the bottom of the device
  6. Place another test call to the device.
  7. If the issue is still not resolved, back up all of your data and perform a Hard Reset by pressing and holding the 2 soft keys while inserting the stylus into the Soft Reset hole on the device.
  8. If the Hard Reset has been done correctly, the customer will see the following:AT&T 8525 does not Ring/Vibrate: Troubleshooting - htc
  9. Once the Hard Reset and Customization process have been completed, try another test call to the device.
  10. If the unit still does not vibrate, the device should now be considered for a warranty exchange.

See the speaker icon at the top of the phone on right side of the start bar ... Tap It
AND VOILA!

Turn the volume slider up next to the phone icon that appears next to the system volume slider.

Close the drop down.

Took me a hour to find it. I think some the peripherals I have been using lately have been switching this.
